Following the outcome of a consultation in April 2017 on plans to make 20 mph speed limits within Midsomer Norton, Bath and North East Somerset Council will shortly be returning the speed limit on Charlton Road to 30 mph as requested by many residents.

The 30 mph will be reinstated except during peak periods around Norton Hill School, where a 20 mph speed limit will operate during term time only and at the beginning and end of the school day. However, the 20 mph limit on all prescribed roads outlined within the consultation including Charlton Park, Boundary Close, Grange End, The Timbers, and Lyndhurst Road will be retained.

These speed limits will be legally enforceable once minor sign amendments are made. The 20mph outside Norton Hill School, together with the sign amendments, will be undertaken over the next couple of months. These changes take on board the comments the Council received in the consultation and are intended to match speed limits to road conditions and characteristics.

Councillor Mark Shelford (Conservative, Lyncombe), Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment said: “This is a sensible approach to traffic management that keeps the 20 mph on residential roads. Although there were differing views, residents who responded to the consultations could see the benefit of this approach.”
