A GAS emergency and pipeline service is inviting those in the Chew Magna community to hear about its planned gas pipe upgrade project, which will start later this month.

Members of the local community are invited to a drop-in session to be hosted by Wales & West Utilities, taking place in Chew Magna Village Hall on Wednesday July 16, taking place between 9.30am and 5.30pm.

Here, residents can view plans and direct any questions to the project team.

Wales & West Utilities will start the work in the Silver Street area of the town on July 21, with the project expected to be completed by September 12.

They liaised with Bath & North East Somerset Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in operation as the works progress.

Wales & West Utilities Simon Lee is managing the work and said: “We’d like to see members of the local community at our drop-in event so that we can share plans of the work.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
