A LOCAL primary school has faired well under the new Ofsted ‘scorecard’ rating system as it was found to be ‘in the green’.
Following an inspection in March 2026, Churchill CofE Primary School has celebrated a glowing Ofsted report.
This is the first time the school has been inspected under the new Ofsted framework in which single word judgements for overall effectiveness are no longer awarded and a ‘scorecard’ is produced instead.
It works under a five-point grading scale and summaries describing strengths and areas for improvement across various categories.
The inspection team identified a strong inclusive culture where “pupils love coming to this welcoming and inclusive village school” and staff “know pupils’ strengths and quickly identify any barriers to learning”. The report highlights the school’s commitment to personal development of the children which means that “they are extremely well prepared for life in modern Britain.”
It was noted that the “school’s values of ‘love, respect and hope’ come through in the way pupils treat each other” and that the pupils feel safe and well cared for. They also “enjoy learning through a well-organised and ambitious curriculum that builds their knowledge and skills over time and exhibit high levels of resilience and self-control.”
Inspectors also praised the extra-curricular offer of clubs and activities which ensure that “all pupils benefit from the rich and varied array of opportunities”.
Following publication of the report, headteacher, Mrs Lorraine Woollven, said: “We are incredibly pleased with this report. It reflects the special atmosphere and approach to learning in our school.
“I am particularly proud of the ‘strong standard’ recognition for inclusion and personal development and wellbeing as the team work incredibly hard to support every pupil every day.
“We really believe in our school values, and I am delighted this was evident to the inspection team.”
