A new Saturday bus service is now in place, combining the 82/82A Tyning via Westfield service to Paulton with the 414/424 Midsomer Norton to Frome service.
The idea was that of Westfield Parish and B&NES Labour Councillor, Eleanor Jackson, which now means that Westfield Waterside residents and those on the ‘Poets’ Estate’ can now travel on Saturdays in either direction, to Tesco in Paulton or to Radstock.
It means an end to weekend isolation for those who cannot walk as far as the A367 to catch a bus, and will also assist those who, under future Government plans, would like a GP appointment on a Saturday.
Cllr Lesley Mansell, Westfield Parish Councillor and now the Labour party’s candidate for Metro Mayor, has pledged to support rural bus services like this. Jacob Bishop-Ponte, the Youth Parliament representative for a constituency which includes much of the Somer Valley, is also enthusiastic.
“It could mean that parents will have less taxi-ing on Saturdays too, if young people can travel easier with the new service,” he said.
