Helen Bailey, from Westfield, will be organising an event during the October Half Term week – in which she will be losing her hair.

Helen is having her head shaved in memory of her friend, Maria, and will be hosting the fundraising event to bring in some extra money for Macmillan.

There will be refreshments and cakes supplied by CakeCakeCake, a raffle with some excellent prizes and face painting on Tuesday, 30th October at Timsbury’s Conygre Hall from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. The event is being supported by A Cut Above hair stylists in Westfield.

Helen grew up in Timsbury, living next door to her neighbour, Maria, for over a decade. Helen told The Journal: “I decided to shave my head when driving home from my friend’s house a few years ago after she had told me she had cancer. The advert came on the radio, and I said to myself that if Maria ever lost her fight, then I would do this.

“Sadly, in January this year, Maria unfortunately lost her fight.

“So, in honour of Maria, who lost her hair a few times due to treatment, I will be shaving my head.

“I’m aiming to raise £2,000 and readers can help me to achieve this by donating online at: bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk/shavers/helen-bailey or by coming along on the day and donating.

“I hope to see some friendly faces cheering me on! Please mark the date in your diaries and come along to support me. All money will go to Macmillan.”
