The Norton Down Africa Fund Charity is now in its fourteenth year. In 2005, following a visit to Kenya, East Africa, by Christine Button, a small committee was formed, including some members of Norton Down Methodist Church, to establish an official registered charity for under-privileged children in Africa.

A group of Trustees were elected and Norton Down Africa Fund (NDAF), was officially registered with the Charity Commission in 2006, charity number 1116445. The aim of the charity is to help young children in Africa to achieve a better future by having access to education.

In 2008, NDAF opened the first Nursery School, it was named Alice ‘B’s. The charity has been able to open three more Nursery Schools in the Kisumu area of Kenya. Each school accommodates thirty children. This includes the funding of a qualified teacher, cook, educational stationery for each child, lunch every school day, entrance exam to Government-aided Primary Education, and a school uniform when required for Primary School.

With the help of the Timsbury-based charity, ‘Bibles for Children’ we have been able to present each child with a Bible as they leave the Nursery School for Primary Education.

A concert in aid of Norton Down Africa Fund is being held at Radstock Methodist Church on Saturday, 30th November at 7.30 p.m. We are delighted to welcome in their Centenary year, the Mendip Male Voice Choir with Hannah Drury. Tickets are available for the concert by telephoning: 01761 412122 or: 01761 414067, or purchased on the door. Christine Button
