Following complaints from the public, including one printed in The Journal last week, Westfield Councillors, Eleanor Jackson and Geoff Fuller have commented on the state of the pit path.

The main cycling and walking path from Westfield into Midsomer Norton, known locally as the ‘Pit Path’, has attracted attention lately, due to being largely overgrown with stinging nettles, weeds and other foliage.

A photo was sent to the Council, alerting them that it is currently impossible for cyclists and pedestrians to pass each other without getting stung by the nettles.

Cllr Fuller said: “Westfield Parish Council, after working with B&NES to get this path adopted, has found that, as one resident rightly said, they have ignored any requests to make this footpath safe and usable.”

Cllr Jackson added: “I sent in a very strong email about the matter, because a grant has been made to improve cyclepaths, and there is no excuse in not treating this as a priority.”

B&NES Council have yet to comment on the issue, but the cyclepath at Welton has also had similar complaints.
