A Radstock dance teacher whose former pupils have gone on to star in West End musicals, television and film has received one of the dance industry’s prestigious national awards.
George Hill, artistic director of BDC Bath Dance College and Sue Hill Dance, was presented with the Theatre Dance Teacher Award at the 2026 Carl Alan Awards in Blackpool on Saturday, October 10.
The awards, organised by Theatre Dance Council International (TDCI), recognise outstanding contributions to dance through performance, teaching and professional achievement.
A former professional dancer, George founded BDC Bath Dance College in 2012.
Based at Victoria Hall in Radstock, the college provides full-time vocational training for students aged 16 to 19, preparing them for careers in dance and musical theatre.
Former students have performed in major West End and touring productions including The Phantom of the Opera, Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Back to the Future: The Musical.
Others have secured contracts with international cruise lines and leading dance companies, while former pupils include Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams and television and film actress Kayleigh-Paige Rees.
George also leads Sue Hill Dance, established by his mother in 1982, which has provided dance opportunities for young people across Somerset for more than four decades.
Speaking after receiving the award, George said: “To receive a Carl Alan Award is an incredible honour, and to be recognised for something I feel so passionate about makes it even more special.
“Teaching has always been about so much more than developing technically accomplished dancers. It’s about helping young people build confidence, discover their potential and believe in what they can achieve.”
He also paid tribute to his colleagues, students and his mother Sue, whose passion for dance education helped shape his career.
The award recognises his longstanding commitment to nurturing young performers.
