Local man, David Taylor, will be Braving the Shave for the second time this summer to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Research.

David was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2003, which was found to be benign and removed. However, it reoccurred in 2011, some of the tumour is inoperable and has been classed as cancerous. Since then, he has been receiving radio and chemotherapy, bringing him into contact with Macmillan nurses.

He said: “Macmillan were so supportive in many ways, they helped with getting through a very lonely time by giving hope. I am participating in Brave the Shave after several operations and radiotherapy for my brain tumour. Through all this time Macmillan nurses and volunteers have been wonderful with their support, I have been so impressed that I have become a Macmillan volunteer myself.”

This will be David’s second time shaving his head for the charity, having taken part in Macmillan’s Brave the Shave last year. The initiative is designed to show solidarity and understanding to cancer patients by volunteering to shave your head and by doing so, raising money for Macmillan, to help them continue to offer their vital services.

David said: “I did a Brave the Shave last year and raised £1,400 and have now become a Macmillan volunteer for fundraising in the Bath Group, which was one of the first in the UK. I thought to celebrate becoming a volunteer, I would take part in Brave the Shave again this year.”

This year David is looking to raise £300 and is very close to hitting his target, to donate or find out more about David’s cause, head to https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/david-taylor/

David’s Brave the Shave will be taking part on Saturday, 9th July at Radstock Working Men’s Club at 5.15 p.m. Staff from Hair Razor in Radstock have volunteered their services for the evening.
