A donor who wishes to remain anonymous was in Frome recently and by chance, saw a piece of artwork on display which was for sale.
The donor realised at once that it was a painting of Writhlington Colliery, and thought that Somerset Coalfield Life at Radstock Museum should have it on display there. It was kindly bought by the donor, who then tracked down the artist and organised for the painting to be given to the museum.
Artist, Amy Yates, is pictured handing the painting to Museum Chairman, Dr Nicholas Hall, outside Radstock Museum. The artwork is now on display at the museum, and a biography of local artist, Amy, and how she came to paint the scene, is being prepared to go alongside the piece.
The museum would like to thank the both the artist and the donor for this wonderful addition to the museum’s collection.
Following the success of Radstock Museum’s workshop in the summer, Family History Expert, Simon Carter, returns on Saturday, 19th October from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. to run his family history research workshop – join him any time that day at the museum for lots of advice and tips on how to research your family tree. He has also produced a booklet to help, which will be available.
