Docky's Delicatessen has been a long-standing lunchtime favourite for many residents in Midsomer Norton and beyond.

Home to a wide range of deli delights, the shop has been offering freshly made baguettes, seasonal specials and sweet treats for the last nineteen years in Church Square.

The business announced on Facebook that they would be closing their doors for the final time at Easter, causing quite the uproar amongst fans of their food.

Multiple commenters described Docky's as an "institution", as outpours of sadness and gratitude continue to be expressed on their page.

Darren and Sharon, owners of Docky's Delicatessen, said: "We opened Docky’s Delicatessen 19 years ago this month, and while we’ve had the most amazing time and met the most incredible people (many of whom have become lifelong friends), it is really hard work."

"We feel that we have taken the shop as far as we can, and that the very long hours are beginning to take their toll."

They then explained that they won't be selling the business on to new owners. "We made the decision to close, rather than sell Docky’s for a couple of reasons, but mainly because we felt that Docky’s was essentially us. We feel that the business is only what it is because of our unique combination of skills and ideas."

"While we would love to see a new delicatessen in Midsomer Norton, we believe that it should be a new unique business, showcasing the talents of the people running it."

Darren and Sharon will be moving on to new ventures in the hope that they can "have more free time to spend with loved ones and pursue other passions and interests."

Touched by the support they received from their decision, they said, "We have been overwhelmed by your reaction to the news that we will be closing Docky’s at Easter. We will miss you all."

"Thank for your lovely messages."
