Midsomer Norton Sixth Form students achieved an average of a B grade per entry. 40% of students achieved A*-A and 66% achieved A*-B. To top these record-breaking achievements, 90% achieved A*-C and 100% of students passed. All these measures are above national averages.

Students continue to be ambitious with their future plans. This year, at 35%, an increased number of students will attend a Russell Group university, compared with the 9% average for the South West. This achievement has been assisted by the Sixth Forms’ specialist Russell Group university preparation programme.

Among the wealth of this year’s outstanding results, there are a few particularly notable accomplishments: Ben Enright, who achieved two A* grades and two A grades, will be studying Chemistry at the University of Manchester this September, Chloe Baldwin achieved two A* grades and one A grade, thus securing a place at the University of Southampton to study Psychology, Ben Hobbs achieved two A grades, one A* and a D*, and will be studying Law at Cardiff university in September, along with Abbey Chiswell, who will also be studying Law at Cardiff University, having achieved a B grade, an A grade and two A* grades.

With the growing job market, exciting apprenticeships and leading universities, we are confident that our students’ diligence and dedication will ensure their success in whichever path they choose to take.”

They have done exceptionally well, better than Year 13 in 2016 and exceeded all national averages. More students than ever are going on to university and the number of top grades achieved has again risen. They have achieved a 100% pass rate, with 90% of grades at A*-C, 66% of grades A*-B and 40% of grades at A*-A.

Writhlington Sixth Form students are celebrating another excellent set of A-level results, with an improvement upon last year; 71% of students achieved an A* to B grade, which was 9% on last year. Across the Sixth Form, 45% of all grades were A* to B and 75% were A* to C.

Many of the Sixth formers had some outstanding results; Sam Burry attained a phenomenal A*A*A* and achieved a place at Homerton College, Cambridge University, to read History and Politics.

Chris Sinanan achieved A*AAB in his A-levels, and will be reading Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath. Rebecca Ager achieved excellent results of A*AAB and is going to the University of Durham.

Joe Grainger-Hull achieved AAA in his A-levels and will be enjoying a gap year. Tara Booker achieved four Distinction *’s; Emma Smith attained three Distinction *’s and a Merit in her subjects, with Tilly Taylor and Lucy White getting three Distinction *’s and a grade C in their subjects.

Students have successfully obtained places at prestigious universities including Cambridge, Durham, Exeter, Cardiff, Manchester, Southampton, Bath and Reading and will be studying subjects including, Forensic Computing, Biological Sciences, Journalism, Business, Geography, History, International Relations, Aerospace Engineering, Nursing, Zoology, Psychology and many others.

We would also like to congratulate a number of students, including Rebecca Ager, Frank Higgins, Kezia Coles, Anna Lee, Maddie Miles and Sophie Arnold, who, as well as achieving a brilliant set of results, have contributed so much to the wider life of the school in terms of extracurricular participation and leadership.

They have been a fantastic year group, who have added a great deal to the school, and are a credit to themselves and their parents. I wish them all the best for the future and look forward to hearing what they get up to as they move on to new adventures.”

Mendip Studio School has celebrated its first set of A-level results as a new school specialising in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Some of the fantastic results received by students included Oliver Nicholls, Joseph Owen-Pickney, Melissa Johnston, Anthony Wynd, Katie Burman and Oliver Coates, who all achieved top grades. Tilly Taylor, Lucy White and Jack Bird Hall also achieved wonderful results.
