It was Arts week for the pupils at St John’s CofE Primary School in Midsomer Norton recently and the children enjoyed taking part in the ‘Take One’ project, in conjunction with the Holburne Museum, Bath.

The chosen object for 2019 was a large painting by Johan Zoffany (1733–1810) called ‘The Auriol and Dashwood Families’. The painting offers a glimpse into the colonial life of 1780s Bengal.

Each class explored the painting and produced some incredible artwork based upon it. Years One and Two were joined by Nicki Smith, from The Creation Station, to create some colourful Indian artwork. Years Three and Six visited Somervale School and experienced secondary school style lessons within the Art Department. All of the children worked incredibly hard to produce extremely colourful and imaginative works of art which they proudly showcased in an Art Gallery in the Studio on the Friday afternoon.
