Two local Secondary Schools have had to close until Wednesday this week due to damage caused by Storm Ciara.

Alun Williams, Executive Headteacher and CEO of the Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership, said: "Following the storm over the weekend, there has been some significant damage to the roof covering of Writhlington Secondary School.

"This has affected a large number of classrooms and therefore, the decision was taken to close both Mendip Studio School and Writhlington School sites on Monday 10th February.

"Unfortunately, both schools will remain closed on Tuesday 11th February whilst contractors continue to assess the safety of the site and begin the necessary interim repairs. It is likely that a full repair will not be possible for some months.

"We anticipate that both school sites will be open on Wednesday 12th February. We are continuing to keep parents and carers updated and work for students is being set via Google Classroom."
