Shoscombe Church School held a magical Christingle service last week to kick-start the Christmas season.

For churches around the world, the Christingle represents the Christian message that Jesus is the light of the world. A relatively new custom, it was introduced into the Church of England in 1968 by the Children’s Society.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “Altogether, the children donated £232 for The Children’s Society, which will be used to benefit the organisation’s invaluable charitable work.

“The school hall was packed-out and it was a very special moment when we all sat in stillness looking at our candles burning,” added Ruth.

“The Christingle, quite simply, represents the core message of Christianity – that Jesus Christ, all year round, is the light and saviour of the world. This historic truth is not just something for children or the young at heart, but it is for everyone that chooses to believe it.”
