Following forty years of service to the International Dance Teachers Association, Sue Hill has been given an honorary lifetime membership to the association for her impeccable work and dedication to dance.

Sue became a member of the International Dance Teachers Association forty years ago and opened her school in Radstock in 1982. The Susan Hill School of Dancing has grown over time and now, with nearly 500 pupils, offers over sixty classes per week.

Bath Dancewear, which attracts clients from far reaching areas opened its doors in 2015, as the front of what was then the school’s first studio in Fortescue Road.

Sue said: “I was so excited to have my own studio and to work in a room with mirrors and proper ballet barres!”

Following the retirement of Sue’s dancing son, George, who trained at the Susan Hill School of Dancing himself before joining the Royal Ballet, Sue set up BDC, Bath Dance College – a full-time college specialising in training performers aged 16–19.

“I love the college students, their life and energy is just amazing. It’s wonderful to work with students of this age drilling, guiding and encouraging them as they prepare to take their next step.”

Alongside a shop, school and college, Sue has also set up an agency which represents musical theatre artists and actors across the country, with agents based in London. This year, Sue, along with her agents, have represented performers in the Royal Variety Performance, London’s West End, film and TV commercials filmed internationally.

She said: “Dance is my life and work for me is always a pleasure. It is always with a humble heart that I scan a theatre programme and see one of my ex-pupils and meet new babies bounding into the Victoria Hall excited as they start their dance journey.”
