A celebration of local artistic talent returns to East Harptree for the third Big Arts Weekend.

The two-day event, taking place on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, will bring together artists from across the Chew Valley for an exhibition, creative workshops and opportunities for visitors to meet the people behind the artwork.

Hosted at East Harptree Theatre and Arts Hub, the weekend will feature nine local exhibiting artists, a featured artist wall, and a gallery displaying additional work by local artists.

The event was launched in October 2024 when a group of artists decided to organise their own exhibition and workshops in the absence of the Chew Valley Arts Trail.

Its success prompted the organisers to establish the Big Arts Weekend as an annual fixture in the village’s cultural calendar.

Among those exhibiting this year are Arts Hub artists-in-residence Jasmine Smail and Ali Brown, alongside Patrick Barker, Chris and Jackie Head, Kevin Hemmings, Cheryl Herrington, Amy Hostler and Pauline Palmer.

Visitors will be able to explore a variety of artistic styles and techniques, including sculpture, painting, photography, textiles and printmaking.

A programme of hands-on workshops will offer opportunities to try plaster sculpture, abstract painting, soft pastels, drawing, mixed media and Christmas collage.

The event will also feature work by artist Giuliana Terran, with additional pieces by local artists on display in a gallery area.

The Arts Hub aims to make creative activities accessible to the wider community, offering studio space to artists and organising workshops and outreach projects.

Visitors can meet the artists, discover how their work is created and enjoy tea, coffee and homemade cakes.

The Big Arts Weekend runs from 10am to 4.30pm on both days at East Harptree Theatre and Arts Hub.
