A ‘Community Energy Open Day’ is to be held at The Hive on Saturday, November 8, from 10am to 1pm, to discuss local energy generation.
The event, being organised by Bath and West Community Energy and the Centre for Sustainable Energy, will look at whether there could be local renewable energy generation in the Peasedown, Shoscombe and Wellow areas.
Back in 2022, the Centre for Sustainable Energy spoke with residents about possible sites for wind and solar. Now the centre is looking at practical next steps and whether the community is in support - because funding is available to help parishes to explore what could work locally and where.
A spokesperson said: “This is an opportunity to join the conversation at a free friendly drop-in morning with tea, cake, children’s activities and a chance to explore how community-owned renewable energy could benefit our area.”
There will be talks at 10.30am and noon, plus stalls covering wind and solar potential, community energy benefits, saving on bills, and how to get involved locally.
The event will also provide an opportunity for people to get free home energy advice from Bath and West Community Energy that could help reduce bills. There will be a children’s play area, and the community library and fridge will also be open.
The spokesperson added: “Everyone is welcome - families, neighbours, curious minds. No booking needed - just drop in!”
This event is part of Energy in Your Community, run by the Community Energy Network - a partnership between Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bath & West Community Energy, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and the University of Bath.
Energy in Your Community help local people explore and develop renewable energy projects depending on what is suitable for the area - that bring direct benefits to their communities.
