THE Golden Oldies are coming to the Acicia Room at The Hive in Peasedown St John on Friday, February 13.

The group helps brighten the lives of thousands of older, isolated people across the county, by offering a sing-a-long to popular hits from the 1950s onwards.

A spokesperson said: “It isn’t a choir, so you don't have to be a good singer, just enjoy music. Sing a-long to popular hits from the 50's onwards from artists like our very own Patron Sir Cliff Richard, Elvis the Beatles and many, many more.

“Those attending the sessions are older people living in community housing, adults with learning difficulties and people living with dementia but everyone is welcome at a Goldies session.

“Tap a-long, sing, dance, laugh and smile but most of all have fun!”

The charity received £1,000 to establish new Sing & Smile groups in Peasedown and Twerton from the Community Contribution Fund at Bath and North East Somerset Council in 2025, and recently were also awarded a grant from the Wessex Water Foundation Community Fund.

The Golden-Oldies charity, more fondly referred to as ‘Goldies’, was founded by Bath-based musician Grenville Jones in 2007. For many years Grenville had built a reputation as one of the UK’s foremost choir leaders and had learnt first-hand of the positive social effects of singing in a choir or a music group.

From small beginnings, and with Sir Cliff Richard as Patron, the work of the charity has grown across England with sessions taking place in libraries, community rooms and church halls. The sessions are led by dedicated session leaders from varied backgrounds. They all share the common view that singing together makes you feel better and always brings a smile.

Sessions begin at 10.30am and are planned for the second Friday of each month. The group asks for a donation of £3.
