Somer Valley FM presenter Rob Bayly invited vintage vocal duo the Robinettes to sing live on The Bayly Brunch show.

Their close-harmony versions of everything from the Andrews Sisters ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ to Blondie’s 'Heart of Glass’ made for very uplifting morning radio.

Maddie Bailey and Bethan Creese met aged 15 as pupils at Norton Hill School but were so inspired by their music lessons that they have made singing their professional careers.

They both teach vocal skills, including to two community choirs in Midsomer Norton and Shepton Mallet.

As The Robinettes, Maddie and Bethan love entertaining residents at retirement homes and guests at private parties and weddings. Maddie also plays ukulele on some numbers like Chattanooga Choo Choo and they easily get people to join in and even dance.

Rob was overwhelmed by their pitch perfect live performance on-air

“The Robinettes were totally brilliant at using professional big band backing tracks for the 1940s numbers and modern instrumental tracks for Blondie and my favourite ‘Wannabe’, doing a tight close-harmony interpretation of the Spice Girls,” said Rob.

Maddie said: “We love reimagining modern songs with a vintage jazz treatment.”

They even reworked the Andrew Sisters famous hit as ‘Bogie Woogie Bayly Boy of Somer Valley’!

“They are such talented ladies and great fun to work with” said Rob, who has invited the duo back to the studio to perform a live Christmas special show in December.

The Bayly Brunch is on air every Thursday morning from 10am to 12noon, with a fast-moving mix of Top 40 and classic tracks, fascinating guests, live music sessions, local stories that matter and surprising alternative news. Rob’s wife Jan even pops in for mid-morning coffee, making it a real Bayly bunch.
