FROME ukulele band The Flukes are celebrating the end of summer with a fundraising evening of live music, singing and dancing.

The band who have just returned from a trip representing Frome at their twin town of Murrhardt in Germany are hosting the party at The Silk Mill in Saxonvale on Friday, September 4.

A spokesperson for the band said: “It's that time again! Tickets available from any passing Fruke, recognisable by their small guitars and tendency to sing too loudly, or from our new swanky website.

“Be there, bring your dancing pants and give generously to our chosen charities.”

The evening of ukulele entertainment and mayhem is all in aid of local charities The Blue House and We Hear You (WHY).

The Blue House is an almshouse in the town and has been has been providing affordable accommodation for the elderly men and women of Frome since 1482.

Money is being raised for the maintenance and repairs to the grade II listed building. Works include essential refurbishment and repairs to the building including the windows, external stonework and its roof.

So far just under £25,000 has been raised of the appeal’s £500,000 target.

We Hear You (WHY) based in North Parade in the town provide specialist mental health counselling to adults and children. In the last quarter the group delivered 378 counselling sessions to those in need in just three months.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We’re incredibly grateful to The Frukes for choosing to support WHY.

“Every pound raised helps us continue providing specialist counselling and emotional support to children, young people and adults affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions.”

Doors open at 7.30pm and the music starts at 8pm.
