Thank you to Eric Brain who told The Journal: “The picture is of Farrington Gurney. 

“It’s the former crossroads opposite Ham Lane looking towards Bristol on the A37/A39. I can vaguely remember the shop on the right from when I used to go to Farrington Market with my father in the 1940s. Have no idea who the motorcyclists are though. The nearest  bike  appears to be a Matchless.”

Thanks also goes to Sally Bown who said: “View of the main Bristol to Wells/Shepton Mallet road now the A37, about the 1930’s,40’s and 50’s. The building on the left was the Post Office and general store and in the ownership of the Pierce family and then Mr and Mrs Woodford.  The small shop on the right was run by Mr and Mrs Collier whose daughter Peggy was a school friend of my mother, Betty Maggs (later Church).”
