The 127th Writhlington Flower Show and Fete will take place on Saturday, 20th August with the Fete opening at 2.30 p.m.
Entries for the Flower Show are welcome. Categories include Flowers, Vegetables, Crafts, Photography, Jams, Cakes and a Children’s Section. The weather once again has been testing for our keen gardeners, flower growers and allotment holders, but they never fail to come up with some wonderful exhibits for the show bench. Whatever the challenges, myself and the Committee always look forward to seeing the results of their hard work. The Fete ‘Family Fun Day for All’ will open at 2.30 p.m. and will include Children’s Mini Olympics.
Once again, due to popular request, the committee will welcome the Mendip Brass Band, who will be playing throughout the afternoon.
The Flower Show committee supports the promotion and protection of Bees and Bee Keeping, so the Mendip Beekeepers Association will be in attendance and will be on hand to help and give advice to anyone wishing to keep Bees. I can recommend the Honey Tasting and I am sure the Beekeepers will have some lovely honey for sale.
Other attractions include White Elephant Stall, Ice Cream Cart, Skittles, Tombola, C&D Gardens, Cats Protection League, Spinning Ginny, Grand Draw and much more. Afternoon tea and home-made cake will be available in the Village Hall. The Flower Show Committee look forward to meeting old and new exhibitors, catching up with old friends and enjoying a lovely cup of tea and reminiscing about times past.
