Thirteen turned out to be a lucky number for cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY), when a group of supporters took on a skydive and raised £8,491.50.

James Weller (pictured), jumped from 15,000 feet as part of his employer Thatcher + Hallam Solicitors’ partnership with WHY, and is also running the 40th anniversary Bath Half Marathon for the charity in October.

Fundraising Officer Helen White said: “It’s been a while since we’ve had such a large group of skydivers and it felt like a very welcome return to normality for community fundraising.

“Of course, for the skydivers themselves, the day was far from normal! We applaud their courage and would like to say a huge thank you to them for raising such a fantastic amount of money: the equivalent of 193 counselling sessions for someone affected or bereaved by cancer.

“Special mention to Thatcher + Hallam Solicitors for their brilliant support since choosing WHY as their charity partner earlier this year – they’ve helped out at events, donated lots of wine to improve the odds at a water or wine stall and James has really stepped up to the mark with not one, but two tough challenges, raising £1,040 of his £1,500 target, with two months to go!”
