As its charity of the year, Freewheelers EVS were recently at the Radstock Co-operative store to raise awareness of the voluntary scheme which sees bikers transporting blood, samples, x-rays, scans, patient notes, breast milk and other medical items or equipment.

There are four bikes operating within a large area, covering Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucester, B&NES, West

Wiltshire, Taunton, Bridgwater, Wells, Glastonbury, Minehead and more, offering out-of-hours and a free of charge courier service to the NHS, saving money on taxis or expensive couriers.

In 2008, Freewheelers EVS were presented with The Queen’s Award for voluntary service, the highest honour such a service can receive.

Chris Kearns, one of the local Freewheelers EVS riders, said: “We had a very successful collection and are delighted with the result, raising £191. We created a lot of interest, raised awareness of what we do and have a couple of potential

volunteers for the future. A very worthwhile day.”
