A FROME man who harassed a woman whom he was banned from contacting and then strangled her has been jailed for nearly three years.

Peter Chislett, aged 45, of Highpoint Court, Butts Hill, also assaulted a police officer on the same day.

Taunton Crown Court Judge Richard Shepherd sentenced Chislett to two years and nine months’ imprisonment.

Prosecuting barrister William Hunter said the offences happened in Wincanton on September 3 this year.

Mr Hunter said Chislett was subject to a restraining order made by magistrates in Bristol in July of last year banning him from entering a certain area and preventing him making direct or indirect contact with the woman.

Chislett, who pleaded guilty, was also made subject to a new restraining order which will run until October, 2031.
