THOUSANDS of residents lined the streets for Frome Town Council’s annual Christmas Light Switch On and Lantern Parade, creating a lively start to the town’s festive season.

The town was illuminated as handmade lanterns, created with support from Frome Lanterns, made their way down from North Parade, accompanied by music from Jamma de Samba.

The Festive Food Court was alive with music from local artists throughout the evening, with performances from DJ Viner, Frome Town Band and Frome Street Bandits.

Tom Carpenter and children from Tri.Art Dance and Performing Arts Academy wowed the crowd from the balcony.

Mayor Cllr Anita Collier led the ceremonial switch-on, joined by Tom, Alice and Sophia from Tri.Art. The event also included a visit from Father Christmas, who met families at his grotto at the We Hear You offices in support of the charity’s counselling services for adults, children and families affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions.

Local eateries stayed open late, and the Festive Food Court offered a range of treats throughout the evening. The town will also host Late Night Christmas Shopping on Friday, December 19, providing another opportunity to enjoy the festive atmosphere while supporting Frome’s independent businesses.

Cllr Collier said, “This night wasn’t just about flipping a switch, it was a celebration of what makes Frome so special: creativity, compassion and a shared sense of belonging. It’s a highlight of the mayor’s calendar and truly one of Frome’s standout events. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who helped bring it to life.”

Nearly £1,000 has been raised through donations from residents for Fair Frome and the Frome Christmas Get Together, to help provide a free Christmas meal and companionship for socially isolated and vulnerable people and families in the local area.
