FUNDING has been provided to support the launch of a seated dance programme supporting those living with chronic pain.

This was done through the Radstock and Westfield Big Local, who donated £705 to Dance For Health.

Big Local is a scheme funded by the National Lottery Community Fund that provides £1-million to 150 neighbourhoods across England, allowing them to spend that money in any way they see fit.

Dance For Health’s programme takes place at Whisty Hall in Radstock, and provides a resource for individuals seeking safe, accessible ways to improve their health and well-being.

They aim to utilise gentle, guided movement in order to improve physical function, reduce pain perception and enhance mental well-being for those suffering with chronic pain.

Chronic pain is defined as being a persistent pain that has lasted for a prolonged period of time, usually at least three months. It can be a diagnosed health condition on its own or be a symptom of another condition.

Mel Wittmaack, founder for Dance For Health, said: “With thanks to the support of Radstock & Westfield Big Local, we can start to lay the foundation of creating a sustainable, long-term resource where people feel connected and empowered.”

The class aims to improve mobility, strength and balance - at each person’s own pace. Beyond the physical benefits, the programme is also about fostering confidence and a sense of community among participants, all within a welcoming and supportive environment.

Ms Wittmaack added: “We love to laugh, connect, and support each other through the tough moments.

“When you live with chronic pain, movement can feel daunting—but when it’s wrapped in music, joy, and community, it nourishes the soul.

“So, whether you’re managing arthritis, fibromyalgia, or another long-term condition, this class is for you. It’s about showing up, just as you are, and knowing you won’t be alone."
