The RSPCA in Bath is searching for a very special home for two elderly dogs who have a combined age of 140 in dog years!

Seventeen-year-old collie cross, Poppy, who is 84 in dog years, and her younger friend, ten-year-old Jack Russell terrier Daisy, 56 in dog years, are being cared for by staff at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, a local branch of the RSPCA.

The duo arrived into the RSPCA’s care in 2016 after their owner was evicted and could no longer care for them. They were rehomed but, sadly, returned to the centre in February due to a relationship breakdown.

Rachel Jones, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Bath, said: “Lovely Poppy is very elderly and is nearing the end of her days, so we really want to get her into a home so she can enjoy the home comforts as she nears the end of her life.

“Daisy will struggle without her lifelong friend, so it’s also important to get her settled so she can cope with the sad loss when it comes.”

This pair are inseparable and love spending time together, so staff are determined to find them a home as a twosome. They are happy being left for short periods, so may suit a working household. They would also be happy in a family environment and can live with children.

Daisy is eager to get out and go for a walk, whereas Poppy would be happy pottering around the garden.

Neither are confident around other dogs, so Daisy would be best exercised in quiet areas.

Rachel added: “It’s so sad to see them in kennels still, after seven months. They are currently in a foster home, as kennels are too stressful for them, but we are desperate to find them a ‘forever home’ as soon as possible.

“They are such lovely, gentle, friendly dogs. They love meeting people and always greet you with happy faces and wagging tails.

“Unfortunately, it can be extremely difficult to find homes for pairs of dogs and for older dogs, so we know it is going to be a challenge to find the ‘paw-fect’ place for this duo.

“But we know that they will make wonderful companions and loving pets for the right family who are willing to look past their grey hairs.”

It can take more than three times longer to rehome a dog over the age of three, than it does to rehome a youngster. For more information about this delightful duo, see their online profile or contact Bath Cats and Dogs Home on: 01225 787321.
