Members of the public and staff at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, are being invited to take a look behind the scenes of the hospital’s radio station when it holds a special open day on Saturday, 1st October.

Bath Hospital Radio, which has been on air for more than 50 years and broadcasts 24 hours a day to patients at the RUH, as well as online at: www.bathhospitalradio.org.uk, will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During the open day, the station’s presenters will be broadcasting live from studio one, while visitors will be able to try their hand in studio two.

“The open day is a great opportunity for anyone to find out more about what we do and to have a go at presenting themselves if they wish,” said Ian Martin, chair of Bath Hospital Radio, which is run by a charity independent of the NHS Trust.

Every hour in studio one, two presenters will be broadcasting live with a theme connecting the music played throughout the day.

In studio two, visitors will be able to record their own link between the songs coming up in the next hour, which will then be played out on air.

“This is a rare opportunity for both members of the public and staff at the Royal United Hospital to tour the radio station, watch a programme being broadcast live and learn more about hospital radio. We are looking for more people to join us as volunteers to help with making and presenting programmes, visiting patients in the wards and running the station,” added Ian.
