EAST Somerset and Frome MP Anna Sabine has contacted Somerset Council to raise serious concerns about road safety at the Terry Hill crossroads.
Multiple constituents contacted Ms Sabine about ongoing dangers at the crossroads, near Ammerdown, in Frome.
She visited the crossroads herself to better understand the issues being reported locally, which include frequent near-misses and the risk of collisions, and has since written to the council urging further action to improve safety for all road users.
Ms Sabine said: “Road safety is an ongoing worry across Frome and East Somerset, with many sites frequently documenting collisions and ‘near-misses’.
“I am frequently contacted by residents who are concerned about junctions like the Terry Hill crossroads and want to make sure that Somerset Council are taking proper measures to improve safety.”
Following discussions, the authority confirmed the crossroads had already been identified within its road safety engineering programme.
It said a key issue appeared to be drivers failing to give way to traffic travelling along the main A362 carriageway.
While signage in the area had been upgraded in previous schemes, the council agreed to investigate further safety measures.
This includes exploring options such as vehicle-activated warning signs to better alert drivers approaching the junction.
Ms Sabine said: “I am pleased the council have committed to further investigation at this site and are taking these concerns seriously.
“I look forward to continuing discussions with them to find a resolution.”
Somerset lead member for transport and waste services, Cllr Richard Wilkins said: “We are aware of the concerns of the community regarding this junction and are identifying a scheme to be part of a future road safety programme.
“We have had constructive discussions with the MP about this and are pleased to be working together on a potential solution at this challenging junction.”
