Celebrate the Festival of Archaeology (16th-31st July 2016) by discovering the fascinating history and archaeology on your doorstep.
A free special event at Conygre Hall in Timsbury on Saturday, 23rd July (11 a.m.-3 p.m.) will include a host of activities for all ages:
· Find out about the Timsbury Hoard and handle some Roman coins
· Learn about the history and archaeology of Timsbury
· See displays about the history of the local coal canal, and the Somerset and Dorset railway
· Find out how archaeologists date objects and have a go yourself
· Enjoy kids’ activities including making radiate crowns and coin purses
The day is being coordinated by Bath & North East Somerset Council, which is responsible for the archaeology of the area.
Councillor Patrick Anketell-Jones (Conservative, Lansdown), the Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “This free event is a great opportunity for people to find out more about the history and archaeology of the area, and handle Roman coins from the Timsbury Hoard. "We are very pleased to be taking part in the nationwide Festival of Archaeology.”
