Curo are delighted to announce the opening of a new Community Shop in Westfield. Initially to be used to support the Radstock and Westfield Big Local project, the shop was officially opened at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, 3rd July by Robin Moss, B&NES and Westfield Councillor and Chair of the Big Local Steering Group.
The purpose of the shop is to encourage local people to complete the questionnaires about how the money should be spent. They can also pop in for a coffee and a chat to share their ideas as to how to spend the £1 million. It will open on Wednesdays and one other weekday between 9.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. Every Wednesday will also feature a pop-up café from local company, 'Coffee and Crumbs'.
Big Local is an opportunity for local people across the Radstock and Westfield areas to use at least £1m of the Big Lottery Fund and a range of support from Local Trusts and their partners to make a significant and lasting difference to the area over the next ten years. Other communities who will benefit from this funding include Clandown, Tyning, Haydon and Writhlington.
Sarah Westell, Community Champion for Radstock and Westfield Big Local, said: "We are actively encouraging local people to influence how the £1 million is spent. The shop will provide a fantastic opportunity for people to come and get involved and complete the questionnaire. This project will have a real and positive effect on our communities for generations to come, so it's important that we reflect local priorities and get it right."
Robin Moss, B&NES Councillor and Chair of the Big Local Steering Group, said: "It's great that the shop will be open for people to drop in, to have a chat, share ideas, fill out a questionnaire and maybe get involved with Big Local if they wish."
Vanessa Collier, Community Investment Manager at Curo, the local organisation who have been appointed to support the project, said: "Big Local is an exciting opportunity for local people to make decisions about how to make Radstock and Westfield a better place to live. We're thrilled that we can further support the project through the Community Shop."
