Paulton's new outdoor fitness equipment was unveiled on Thursday, 2nd April at the village's Memorial Park.

Paulton is proud to be the first village in B&NES to install an outside gym, with Keynsham opening theirs at the Memorial Park last Wednesday.

Les Wild, Chair of Paulton Parish Council, said: "The outdoor gym was installed using Section 106 contributions from developments within the village.

"Because B&NES Council and the law is so precise about how the money can be used, it has taken Paulton Parish Council almost a year to convince B&NES that an outdoor gym was the best use of money allocated for play equipment."

The Parish Council is pleased to be able to promote fitness in the village using the new equipment and invited Paulton Running Club along to the opening.

In Keynsham, the new outdoor gym is located near Bath Hill East car park and, like Paulton, features equipment suitable for a range of ages and abilities.

Starting in April, Bath and North East Somerset Council's Active Lifestyles and Health Improvement Team will be providing an outdoor fitness coach and running leader to run sessions on the new equipment and park trails in Keynsham.

Run Fit classes will start on Tuesday, 14th April, meeting at the park at 7.45 a.m. These 45-minute cross-training sessions combine running and functional fitness exercises.

A Run Start beginners' running course will also be available, meeting on Thursday, 16th April at 5 p.m., at Keynsham Leisure Centre. This eight-week course is designed for anyone sixteen and over who wants to start running. This is a course for complete beginners. Each session is progressive, with the aim of participants being able to run 5k by the end of the course.

Run Start Courses are also available as follows: Midsomer Norton (St John's Ambulance Hall) – Monday, 13th April, 6.30 p.m. and Radstock (Norton Radstock College) – Wednesday, 15th April, 5 p.m.

Runners in Paulton also have the chance to join Paulton Running Club, which meets at the fire station in the village on Tuesdays, 7.30 p.m., Fridays, 7 p.m. and early Sunday evenings. It is an informal club, with no pressure on members to run solidly – all abilities are welcome.
