Eileen Colburn, a volunteer who brings Bath and North East Somerset Council Library Services to the housebound, has been honoured for her thirty years of service. Eileen is the Library Coordinator and organises home library visits for those with physical or mental health disabilities or carer's responsibilities.

She, and other volunteers, deliver materials, including large print books, CDs, DVDs and ordinary print fiction and non-fiction, to those who would otherwise be unable to access libraries.

A special presentation, to mark her services, took place on Wednesday, 6th November at Midsomer Norton Library. In her role as a Volunteer Coordinator, Eileen has been the inspiration to others to take up voluntary work within the library service. Several current and past Midsomer Norton Area Group Volunteer Members came along to join the celebrations and offer Eileen congratulations.

Cllr David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: "The Home Library Service runs largely through the support of volunteers. It is more than just a delivery and collection of books – for many it has become a befriending service and a real lifeline, particularly for those living alone.

"Eileen's tremendous contribution to the Home Library Service is an inspirational example of the positive impact that volunteers can have on people's lives in our communities."

Cllr Neil Butters, Chair of Bath and North East Somerset Council, and June Brassington, Head of Library Services, honoured Eileen at the event and presented her with flowers. Volunteers who work with Eileen also presented her with a cake and shared their appreciation of the work she has done over the past thirty years.
