The Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club has shown their support for some very special visitors to Bath’s Royal United Hospital. The Lions have donated £500 to the Theodora Children’s Charity, who send highly trained performers, called Giggle Doctors, to bring moments of fun and laughter to children in hospital.
Jennifer Payne, Fundraising and Communications Manager for the Theodora Children’s Charity, said: “We are thrilled that The Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club has decided to support our much-loved programme of smiles at the Royal United.
“Their donation will help the charity to fund Giggle Doctor visits for fifty children this year – that’s a lot of smiling faces!
“A huge thank you to them. The generous support of the local community plays a big part in enabling these important visits to continue.”
The Giggle Doctors visit the hospital every Monday using their unique skills to increase opportunities for play and reduce the anxiety sometimes felt by young patients during a visit to hospital.
The Giggle Doctors liaise closely with hospital professionals to ensure that young patients at the Royal United Hospital have the best possible hospital experience.
President Derek Livsey, from the Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club said: “We are pleased to help the Giggle Doctors continue their valuable work.”
There are 25 Giggle Doctors who visit twenty hospitals, three hospices and two specialist care centres across England, spreading joy and laughter to more than 30,000 children and their families each year.
To continue spreading smiles at the Royal United Hospital, the Theodora Children’s Charity relies on donations and support from the local community.
