Local miners, forever joined in camaraderie in our distinct, local trade, met for the Annual Somerset Miners’ Reunion on Monday lunchtime this week at Radstock Museum.
They were joined by President of the Somerset Miners’ Welfare Trust and Glastonbury Festival founder, Michael Eavis, over a ploughman’s lunch donated by local businesses such as the Radstock Co-operative Society, Paul Loader Butchers, who donated meat and Lye Cross Farm, who donated cheese. Museum volunteer, Julie Dexter, pulled the whole effort together by organising the catering.
A new committee has been formed to help continue the Somerset District Miners’ Welfare Trust, as some have had to step down due to ill health. The former Miners sat down to lunch and enjoyed an annual catch-up with old friends and colleagues.
