Book Week is a truly magical annual event that captivates the children’s imagination and inspires readers of all ages.

As a ‘reading for pleasure’ school, the pupils at Longvernal Primary School live and breathe books and the week-long extravaganza is a celebration of everything they do regularly. An absolute favourite is an extreme reading competition, where they are ‘caught’ reading in weird and wonderful places. Even staff take part!

Amongst other book-based activities, the pupils dress up as characters from their favourite books, study illustrators, pen book reviews, create book box scenes, visit the local library and much more. To top off all of this fun, the Natural Theatre Company delivers spellbinding workshops to each class, based on their class novels.

Cindy James Moore, English Lead, said: “At Longvernal, reading is simply part of who we are. We understand the importance of developing a love of reading, in all children, from an early age and Book Week allows everybody to express themselves through the books that they love.’’

This year, the grand finale of the week is a visit from a travelling theatre company to enthral pupils with its rendition of The Time Machine. What a week for the lucky children of Longvernal!
