The Mendip Male Voice Choir are back from their successful weekend tour of the Torquay area, where a considerable amount of money was raised for charity.
On Friday, their first concert was in the Methodist Church in Brixham singing with the Riviera Ladies’ Choir which went very well, money raised was for the church funds. Both choirs closed the show with Rhythm of Life from Sweet Charity, which brought great applause form the packed house.
Jamie Knights, the Mendip Men’s Musical Director, because of a commitment to his school, had to travel back home after the concert on Friday then drive back down again on the Saturday.
Saturday night, it was off to Totnes Church to be on the same bill as the Brixham Male Choir and the Brixham Harmony Lady Singers, for the second night running, the place was full, many coming along again from the previous night.
This concert came to an end with the powerful Morte Criste by both male choirs, with the audience on their feet concluding a wonderful weekend of song for the travelling Mendip Men. Compère, Capt. Bob Curtis, (Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir) thanked Jamie Knights and accompanist, Philip Evry, of the Mendip Male Voice Choir, for bringing the men to Totnes to raise much needed funds for Totnes Caring.
Back at the hotel, the singing went on until the early hours of the morning and an enjoyable time was had by all.
The Mendip Men are now back rehearsing their winter/Christmas songs for a busy November and December of concerts, starting with a charity night at Chilcompton Church on Saturday, 26th November, money raised is going to the Carers’ Centre, the night before they will be singing at the Bath Christmas Market.
On Friday, 9th December it’s into Bath for a concert at St Michael’s Church, then it’s the choir’s big night at St John’s Church, Midsomer Norton, on Saturday, 17th December for the annual Christmas Concert.
Details of all the choir’s concerts are to be found on their website, there is even a photo of every member, not be missed.
If there are men out there who are interested in joining the choir, come along any Monday night to St Mary’s School, Timsbury, at 7.15 p.m. and listen to us and enjoy the fellowship, you will not know what you have missed until you have sung with eighty other voices.
