The news that from November 5th there is to be a second lockdown in place means that there will be no Town commemoration on Remembrance Sunday on the High Street.
Plans to hold this in the Methodist Church, attended by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor have also had to be cancelled due to the closure of church buildings for worship.
However, for those on the internet, Midsomer Norton Methodist Church will be holding a live streamed commemoration starting at 10.45 a.m. on Sunday, 8th November to which any member of the community is welcome to join.
Rev. Stephen Robinson said: “Having attended each year, I know how important the Midsomer Norton commemoration is on Remembrance Sunday and it has grown in support in recent years. We wanted to offer an alternative for the community who will not be able to gather on the High Street on Remembrance Sunday. Since March, we have been offering a weekly live streamed act of worship online and so I hope that what we offer this Sunday at 10.45 a.m. will be of help to the wider community on Remembrance Sunday.”
The service will be led by Rev Robinson. The Mayor of Midsomer Norton, Councillor Lynda Robertson. said: “I really appreciate the Methodist Church carrying out this Remembrance service as, with all that’s happened in 2020, we can’t hold the service on the High Street or in the Church so live streamed will be great."
The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Steve Plumley added “Although we are all going through a once in a lifetime pandemic, it’s still important to remember all those people who lost their lives in various conflicts to give us freedom and protect our way of life. We have every chance to get through this virus safely but those fallen heroes had no chance, and died to keep us free – we should always remember them.”
If you wish to follow the commemoration on the internet it will be live streamed on the Church’s Facebook page: Midsomer Norton Methodist Church and uploaded to the church Youtube page (Midsomer Norton Methodist Church) soon after the service has concluded.
