At Camerton Community Hall, thirty ex-miners and friends sat down to a great two course meal put on by local chef Dave Mott, helped by friends of the hall acting as servers, with resident bar lady Bev keeping everyone fuelled with complementary drinks.
Also in attendance as always was the trust’s President, Mr Micheal Eavis.
Mr Eavis had three tasks during the afternoon, the first was to present a signed painting to Marya Turner who won the competition to name the “Colliers Copse” a wooded nature reserve that’s been developed with a path running through it.
The next duty was to officially open the “Colliers Copse” and unveil the first of many metal miners the SMWT is hoping will be sited around the area.
A big thank you must go to Lucy and Tom from the museum who brought along boards with many photos of Camerton Pits and the area.
The next big event for the miners is at the Radstock Museum on the first Monday in September, the annual Miners Reunion.
