A new Midsomer Norton food and drink festival in the town surpassed all expectations bringing in crowds to the town centre.

The first eat:Midsomer Norton festival, an endeavour supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council, offered visitors a food and drink offering from local and regional producers alongside a host of stalls and entertainment.

eat:Festivals is a not-for-profit social enterprise that specialise in events that bring the community together, hosting events around the South West.

Organisers Bev and Sarah Milner Simonds from eat:Festivals said: “We were very pleased to welcome so many people into Midsomer Norton on Saturday for the first festival of local food and drink.

“The streets were filled from 10am; we spoke with locals and shop owners, including people who had traveled from Oxford and the south coast, using the festival as an excuse to visit friends and family.

“We were told so many times that locals had never seen it so busy and overheard as many people exclaiming joy at bumping into old friends and neighbours.

“It is really fulfilling to know that we created an opportunity for the community to commune in their town centre.

“Quite a few of the producers sold out, which is to be expected when working with micro and small businesses; they can only produce so much and don’t want to be left with waste if the day hadn’t been so successful.

“We took the time to visit some businesses within the festival area and up the High Street and will be using their feedback to help shape any future festivals we curate here.

“Thank you to Bath and North East Somerset Council for their support of this inaugural event and we hope to be invited back.”
