Local company, Midsomer Quilting, based at Norton Down Garden Centre, Chilcompton, is holding its sixth exhibition at the shop, with proceeds going to Dorothy House Hospice.

Renowned Argentinian quilter, Alicia Merrett, wrote to the shop to say: “Today I visited Midsomer Quilting, the wonderful shop in Chilcompton, to see their annual 12’ by 12’ exhibition. The exhibition is always a pleasure to see, but this year, it has excelled all the previous ones.

“The theme was obviously particularly exciting: ‘Myth, Magic and Mystery’ and it certainly inspired me. The technical quality of the work is also uniformly superb,

especially considering that the makers can be beginners, amateurs or professionals and their ages range from nine to ninety.”

The 170 piece exhibition features a variety of quilting styles all within the theme of Myth, Magic and Mystery.

Entry to the exhibition is free, with an auction on some of the pieces, the proceeds of which will go to Dorothy House Hospice.

There is also a raffle to win a sewing machine and the opportunity to vote for your three favourite pieces.

Chris Howell, co-founder at Midsomer Quilting, said: “We’re thrilled that we can show what ordinary people are creating, some of the work is fantastic. Over the years running the exhibitions, we’ve raised over £10,000 for charity.”

One piece in particular that has got people talking is a quilt featuring David Bowie, created and donated by Nik Beaumont, who works at the shop. She said: “I felt it was fitting to create something as a tribute to him and he did always have a bit of mystery, myth and magic about him.”

The exhibition is at Midsomer Quilting and is open every day up until Monday, 19th December, from 10.30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
