Cyclists and walkers could soon be able to enjoy a joined-up trail around Chew Valley Lake.
There are already several tracks but large parts of the waterside are unreachable.
Cycling charity, Sustrans, is working with Bristol Water and B&NES Council to connect them and create an accessible circular route of around eight miles.
Rupert Crosbee, Network Development Manager at Sustrans, said: “It has been an ambition of Bristol Water, B&NES Council, Sustrans and the local community to open up a circular walking and cycling route around the whole lake to open this natural amenity for all.
“The plan for an accessible circular route meets this identified demand that currently isn’t being met in the area.
“Expert advice has been taken on developing the route not to impact the protected areas and ensure protection of wildlife and habitat.
“Although this presents a challenge, it also provides an opportunity for a new audience to engage with the environment whilst supporting the local economy and potentially their own wellbeing.”
A drop-in consultation event for residents to view and comment on the plans is being held in the Children’s Centre at Chew Valley School from 4 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, June 28th. B&NES Council will decide the fate of the application.
