Peasedown St John’s Hive Community Centre has appointed a new manager, who will be responsible for the day to day running of the building Lucy Day, who is already well known in the community, was appointed to the role in November.
Chair of The Hive Management Committee, Joy Fraser, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Lucy to the team. She has been a part of the Peasedown community for over twenty years and is well known to villagers through being a part of the Methodist Church. Plus, Lucy’s husband Andy runs The Meeting Place Coffee Shop.
“Lucy, a trained and experienced social worker, comes with years of experience of working with foster carers and looked after children. We’re looking forward to working with her to see how we can best support our local community.”
The Hive Community Centre opened last year, run by a team of volunteers, and was formerly the youth centre in Peasedown St John for many decades. Following B&NES Council’s initial intention to close the building, the community stepped in with a vision to create a community space with a range of services and activities for local people.
Lucy added: “The Hive is a fantastic project to be a part of. It’s already home to the village Post Office, Swallow Café, the Community Library and a wide selection of community groups throughout the week.
“Our aim is to continue to build a Community Centre that’s at the heart of the village. Our vision is to provide a range of community activities and events for the people of Peasedown St John and surrounding areas and to be the preferred choice for those planning activities, events, training and meetings. We want to provide a safe environment for the community.”
