A new Studio School, which is one of three new schools for the south west, was announced by Chancellor George Osborne on Tuesday afternoon as The Journal went to press.
The Mendip Studio for Electronic Engineering and Bioscience will be based in Radstock and will cater for 300 students. The specialisms are electronic engineering and bioscience and could open from September 2015.
Writhlington School, the proposer, has expertise in this field, with a strong national and international reputation among local higher education institutions and employers. Employer partners include the Dyson Foundation, Kew, the Cambridge University Botanic Garden and Intel.
Studio Schools use technical or vocational based training alongside universities and employers.
