Timsbury Parish Council, Radstock Museum and the charity, Water Aid, have each benefited financially from the success of Peter, Larry and Sue’s four previous books.

Sue Fraser explains: “People from all around seem to love the books and a total of over 2,500 copies have been sold to date, meaning that over £2,000 has been raised for these good causes.”

The new book mirrors the successful format of Peter, Larry and Sue’s four previous books, with clear directions, maps, information about points of interest on each route and colour photographs.

“We seem to have hit on a format which suits a wide range of people,” said Larry, “With some longer walks for serious ramblers and shorter alternatives for those just keen to stretch their legs.”

“As with the previous books, we have researched and produced the book as volunteers for the benefit of the community”, explained Peter.

Once printing costs are recouped, all the proceeds of sales will be donated to the Avon Wildlife Trust, a charity which works to protect and promote wildlife in the area of the former county of Avon. “One of the walks in the new book visits Folly Farm, one of the Trust’s nature reserves,” Peter added.

The walks in the new book range from 2.4 to 8 miles in length. “There are so many potentially enjoyable and interesting walks in this beautiful area that it wasn’t easy to decide which to include, so we’ve concentrated on ones that combine attractive scenery with historical interest,” stressed Sue.

“It is thanks to the coal miners walking to and from their work in the many local pits during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that we have such an amazing web of footpaths to use today,” she added.

Following in the miners’ footsteps, Peter, Larry and Sue have been able to research and publish a total of ninety-four different walks to date, all in their local area.

The book went on sale on Monday and can be purchased for £6 from The Connies Tea Rooms or Health & More in Timsbury, Radstock Museum, Farmborough Community Shop and the Oldfield Park Bookshop in Bath.

All proceeds to the Avon Wildlife Trust.
