“Shadows” was the focus for the Digital Image Competition for April , and the theme certainly attracted some hot entries!

Judges, Sue O’Connell and Peter Brisley, commended the variety of images put forward by members, and commented at length on each. The feedback was very well received and their encouragement to develop individual skills will certainly inform future efforts by all. Sue and Peter are accomplished photographers in their own right, and they regularly judge and present at clubs across the region.

Suzanne Ladd was once again successful, gaining second place in the colour section with her very creative “Beach Stroller” and both second and third places in the Black and White section with “Evening Light” and “Finger Pointer” respectively. However, first place in the Colour Section went to Jenny Short with her abstract image entitled “Bending Forks” with Graham Nicholls’ “Shadowing a Skateboarder” placed third and Janice Cuer, Jill Toman and Susanne Ladd all Highly Commended in the section.

The Black and White section was won by Jill Toman with her stunning image of “Newport Transporter Bridge” reflected in the waters below. Jill was also awarded a Highly Commended in the section, as was Jane Richardson.

Members are now turning their attention to May’s Open Digital Competition, for which the entry deadline is 4th May, and looking forward to the lighter evenings as late Spring turns to Summer. There is certainly a lot to look forward to. In the meantime, there is a really interesting exhibition of the British Wildlife Photography Awards at the Brick Building Arts Centre in Glastonbury. Well worth a visit and very inspirational.
