CAN you guess where this week’s Mystery Photograph was taken?
Each week, the Journal invites readers to identify a historic location from days gone by.
We had quite a few entries via email and on Facebook for last week’s image. Roy Robinson emailed in to say: “This week's photo is of 'The Batch' Highlittleton. Just to the left of the tall tree is Porch Cottage,” while Delphine Watts (was Brimble) wrote in to say: “I think it’s The Batch High Littleton where my father was born.”
Roger Brooks from Radstock emailed: “Today's picture is the main road through High Littleton just past the church.”
Regular Jeff Parsons wrote in to say: “This week the picture is at High Littleton at the junction of the A39 and the right hand fork to Timsbury Bottom and Goosard. Very similar, if not the same one posted last July. We are still awake!” Thank you Jeff.

On Facebook Stephen Leadbeatter commented: “Looks like Batch in Highlittleton,” while Jane Mounty asked: “Is it Welton?” Martin Horler and Simon Chard both guessed High Littleton, with Martin adding: “I meant to add that the area around the tree was I believe known as The Batch and the building behind the tree was The Market Tavern.” And Tina Harper commented to say: “Most definitely High Littleton.”
Thank you for all the guesses. There can be little doubt that the photo indeed showed The Batch, High Littleton. Delphine Watt’s maiden name of Brimble was associated with one of the public houses in the village with a Henry Brimble listed in the 1851 Census as a coal miner and by the 1881 Census as publican.
Thanks again to Radstock Museum for a new batch of mystery photographs for us to share with everyone.
