National Theatre Live returns with two broadcasts as part of the Midsomer Arts Festival.
First up, on Thursday, 22nd June at 7 p.m., is a live broadcast of Salomé. The story has been told before, but never like this. An occupied desert nation. A radical from the wilderness on hunger strike. A girl whose mysterious dance will change the course of the world. This charged retelling turns the infamous biblical tale on its head, placing the girl we call Salomé at the centre of a revolution.
Then, on Sunday, 25th June, at 2.30 p.m. is a screening of Peter Pan captured live at the National Theatre, a recorded performance of J.M. Barrie’s much-loved tale. When Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him to reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await. A riot of magic, music and make-believe ensues. A delight for children and adults alike, Sally Cookson (NT Live: Jane Eyre) directs this wondrously inventive production, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic theatre.
